Malandain Ballet Biarritz - Magifique

The Malandain Ballet Biarritz is still a young company, but is already commanding plenty of international attention.

Artistically, the driving force behind the group is the French choreographer Thierry Malandain, who created the duet Entre deux for Introdans early in 2011. After this successful Dutch début, the full company is now coming to The Netherlands, in its only appearance in The Hague, with Malandain’s much lauded Magifique (2009). It is an extraordinary, contemporary interpretation of the musical high points from Sleeping Beauty, the Nutcracker and Swan Lake, inspired by the symphonic suites that Tchaikovsky composed as the basis for his famous ballets.

Too bad I won’t be able to see this young dance company live on stage.

Sylvie Guillem at Holland Dance Festival

Sylvie Guillem CBE (b. 1965) is a French ballet dancer. She was the top-ranking female dancer with the Paris Opera Ballet from 1984 to 1989, before becoming a principal guest artist with the Royal Ballet in London. She is currently performing contemporary dance as an Associate Artist of London’s Sadler’s Wells Theatre. Her most notable performances have included those in Giselle and in Rudolf Nureyev’s stagings of Swan Lake and Don Quixote. *

CINEDANS

Cinedans International Film, Dance and Media Festival is a unique festival – both in The Netherlands as well as abroad. Dance films are the central focus during this festival. Cinedans describes a “dance film” as a true synthesis between two different media – dance and cinematography.

Cinedans is an annual festival which takes place in the month December in Amsterdam.

JULIDANS

JULIDANS, a Summer Festival for International Contemporary Dance in Amsterdam is now celebrating its 20th Anniversary.

This year JULIDANS opens the festival with a new work from Akram Khan (http://www.akramkhancompany.net/).

There will also be Pina Bausch’s Kontakthof mit Teenagern ab ´14, a remake of her widely acclaimed piece Kontakthof, in a new version with young performers. Kontakthof mit Teenagern ab ´14 is one of Bausch’s last works before she died in 2009.
